Hi, I am afraid this question was overlooked because the tag "SAP Transportation Management" was not assigned to this question.

A freight unit is basically a unit representing cargo that needs to be transported, such as products. A transportation unit is something that needs to be transported, contains cargo and uses a piece of equipment to carry that cargo, for example a container.

So, a transportation unit can contain a freight unit if you want to handle the freight unit individually somewhere (e.g. when unloading a container at the port and carrying the pallet by itself) but in some cases can also be used without a freight unit in it if you don't need to handle the freight unit individually (e.g. in a full container load scenario).

Hope this helps.

Hi, I am also curious. What is the difference between a handling unit (HU) and a transportation unit (TU)? Since a handling unit represents a pallet, container, wire basket, etc, how is that different than a transportation unit? My thought is that handling units are specific to Extended Warehouse Management and transportation units are tied to Transportation Management. But, do these represent the same thing? Thanks in advance.
