Connecting S4 HANA on-premise to HCI using IDOC communication

Hi Experts,

We have a requirement, where we need to send IDocs from S4 HANA on-premise system to our SAP HCI system. The IDoc then needs to be stored in Hana DB and later through API exposed to different UIs.

I am new to HCI and S4 HANA, so please help me on below mentioned points -

1) What will be the IDoc structure in S4 HANA(SHPMNT04, DELVRY03 and TRXSTA01), will that be same or where we can check the structure on HCI part to confirm the same?

2) Which protocol/adapters we can use to proceed with the IDoc communication between S4 HANA and HCI?

Please help with your inputs/valuable links.

Thanks,

Nidhi Srivastava

Hi Nidhi

Getting your IDoc into HCI is straightforward: You just have to set up a sender IDoc channel. This creates an endpoint, which you then use during the configuration on the SAP side. The IDoc sender channel doesn't need to know the specific type of IDoc you are sending. HCI is pretty flexible in this regard.

Hi Morten,

Thanks for your response.

Is it required to install HCC for setting up communication between S4 HANA and HCI systems?

Also, the structure of the standard IDocs which we generally use in SAP ECC will it be same in S4 HANA system?

Please suggest.

Thanks,

Hi Nidhi

In order for your on-premise S/4 system to reach HCI, Cloud Connector is not required. You only need the Cloud Connector for your cloud systems to be able to reach your on-premise systems.

As for the IDoc formats on ECC and S/4HANA, I do not know, I'm afraid.

Regards,

Morten
