Hello Experts,
We're planned to do a System copy using Export-Import Method (R3Load) from Production (Source System) to Sandbox (Target System).
We assume that it is possible to perform the Source System Export without updating the kernel patch level to the latest patch level available in the SAP Marketplace.
During the Target System Installation using Import method, it is possible to use the latest kernel patch Level available in the SAP Markeplace?
Or
We have to use the same Source system kernel patch also for target System Installation? SAP System Copy Guide, says, to update the latest kernel patch in target System after installing the central instance and before starting the SAP System.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Best regards
Sreenivas
If the R3SZCHK task took 9 hours then you may consider updating the statistics. Updating the target system kernel (at least the R3* files) to the latest available would be the best. I do that always just because I've run into issue with the older kernel packs.

Hi Warren,
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
System Export activity processed the Task type "run R3SZCHK" and currently running task type "Migration Monitor".
"run R3SZCHK" activity ran for ~ 9 hours. Do you have idea what would be reason for the issue? We assume that the database tuning was not performed recently in the system.
Actually, during the process i selected the option "skip statistics update" in the screen "MaxDB Database Statistics". I assume that this won't be the reason for long running of R3SZCHK activity because according to SWPM task list, the task type "MaxDB: Update Statistics" Comes later than the task type "run R3SZCHK", that is, after "check database schema for ABAP".
Maybe, r3* Tools delivered along with the SWPM tool are on the old Version?
Thanks
Sreenivas

Do the kernel upgrade after the export/import and post processing is completed.

Hi Sriram,
Our Intention is, not to update anything on the Production System before trying any activities on the sandbox, development and test Systems.
It should be fine if i do the following?
Let me know.
Thanks

Hi Sreenivas
You kernel patch level is low if possible do the kernel upgrade and then start the source system export

Hi Sreenivas,
Technically you don't need to update the kernel of source system unless you encounter an issue and only solution for which is kernel update.
Once you export the database, it's platform (OS and so SAP kernel, database) independent and you should be able to use it to import on any platform. There may be some release restriction but usually you would setup target system with higher levels than source in which case, it should be fine.
I hope above helps and let me know if you've any more specific doubts.

Hi Kashyap,
I assume the same. Anyway i will try and confirm it.
Thanks

Hi Sriram,
Thanks for the suggestion.
You mean, during the source system Export via SWPM, i have to update the system with the latest kernel patch and then perform Import in the target system?
Source System has the following:
- kernel Version 722_EXT_REL Patch 216
- Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 02
- MaxDB Version 7.8.02.39
- SAP ERP6.0
Thanks
Sreenivas

Hi Sreenivas.
During the source system export it may ask you to upgrade the latest kernel files, my advice is better you can do the kernel upgrade and then perform the system copy, what is the kernel release and patch level on source system? and share the OS /DB & SAP versions?
Regards
Sriram
