Hi all:
can any tell me "can we do reporting on master data". if so, HOW? can you please give me a step by step procedure.
This is what i know:plz correct me if i am wrong.
1. assuming that i want a report on 0sales_area.
2. i need to make that DS available in Infoprovider tree.
3. to do so, in infosource, i need to choose flexible updating for Master data, which in turn makes the Infoobject available in Infoprovider.
4. then i need to create Update rules.
5. and can get a report in BEx?
Am I correct?
please correct me
Thanks
kedar
Kedar,
You could do that as explained by Sat.
Instead of specifying under which infoarea we want the infoobject to be ..
we could direclt go to info providers-info areas and insert the infoobject as a data target

Hi Doodle and Sat
Thanks for the input.
so, if this is the case, i can either flag the option as data provider in the IO>>MD tab or else i can go to Info provider and select my IA and make the chara as an Data target.(this is what you told me till now).
my question is, then whats the difference between direct updating and flexible updating of master data.
i was in a impression that unless and untill i use flexible updating of MD, i will be getting the IO in the infoprovider tree. BTW, i gave points.
can you plz explain this.
thanks
kedar
Kedar,
Direct update is generally used for Master data infoobject & here no update rules are used, that means data from source system passes though transfer structure, rules, & communication structure directly to Data target i.e. InfoObject.
Flexible Update - generally used for transaction data ( nowadays can be used for few master data as well) has another set of rule after communication structure i.e. update rule before moving data to data target.

Kedar,
Just follow the steps :
Double click on the info object ; go to the tab master data/texts
in the bottom "Master data infosource/Data target/Infoprovider you will see
Character is data target/infoprovider - Please check this one.
and activate infoobject again
After that go to info provider and search for this info object and you will see this
You can open query designer and ypu can find this info object available as a info provider and you can design a query
