Override / Extend Travel accelerator components and controllers

Hi,

I am trying to extend the AccommodationFinderComponent within Travel accelerator (SAP Hybris Commerce 1811 and travel accelerator 1904)

I have my own yaccelerator based storefront which has accomodation addon is installed. I have created an rcdlegendaddon to override elements of accomodation addon and others. I tried creating my own cms component and corresponding controller, I included the component in the target CMS slot, but it would not trigger my controller for what I can determine. Maybe I am doing something wrong. What would be the best approach for this?
