Update Document previous revision status on releasing new revision

We have a requirement to move previous revision of the Document to different status when the new revision is Approved/Released. When the Document is in Approved/Release status, new revision has to be created to make changes. When the new revision moves to Approved/Release status, previous revision status should be updated Superseded. The previous revision status update has to be done automatically by system without manual activity. Any suggestion how to achieve this function ?
