Internal counter usage of STKO STPO

Hi all Expert,

I notice for BOM data in STKO and STPO key fields include an field STPOZ which named internal count. May u know the usage of this field? when this field will be changed?

For me, bom id plus alternative id is already enough to distinguish between different versions.
