S4HANA installation error Invalid profile parameter dbms/type

Hi Experts for S4HANA installation:

I am trying to install S4HANA 1909 downloaded through Maintenance Planner, with following

software version:

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1.
  • installed following SAP Note: 2578899.
  • Installed SAP Patterns using yast
  • installed libopenssl1_0_0
  • HANA DB 2.00.044.00.1571081837
  • HANA Client 2.4.167.1570894745
  • SWPM v2 SP04_2-80003424
  • KERNEL 27-80004392

But during installation at 74% i am getting this error:

  • sapinst_dev.log file:

/usr/sap/D01/SYS/exe/uc/linuxx86_64/saplikey pf=/usr/sap/D01/SYS/profile/D01_D01_isap4hanas01 -install_first_temp A1855778431 XXXXXX' exits with error code 2. For details see log file(s) saplikey.log, dev_slic)

  • dev_likey file : MtxInit: ABAP_WP_0 0 0 *** ERROR => Invalid profile parameter dbms/type (or environment variable dbms_type) = <undef>, cannot load DB library [dbcon.c 6917]
*** ERROR => saplikey: failed to load shared library when connecting to the database. [saplikey.c 820]

I have set the profile parameter: dbms/type = hdb in DEFAULT.PFL and Instlance Profile. Also set the OS env by set env dbms/type = hdb from root Still the error not solved. please let me know if any one has the solution.

Thanks

RAIM

Hi,

The issue is resolved after installation on SUSE 12sp4 , instead of SUSE 15sp1. S4HANA 1909 installation completed smoothly without any error. all the environment variable was set automatically .

I have tried to install 5 times on the suse15sp1 OS, but miserably failed.

Thanks

RAIM.

This is a problem with your environmental variables, you need to make sure the PATH has been maintained for your <sid>adm users

Hi Rajib,

I would recommend to do below steps. Please read carefully and ensure everything has been done:

  1. Ensure dbms/type = hdb is set in profile DEFAULT.PFL
  2. Exit SWPM completely. All processes have to be stopped
  3. Start SWPM again and resume the existing installation

Is it still failing? Then do below:

  1. Move to "/usr/sap/D01/SYS/exe/uc/linuxx86_64/" (This directory contains R3trans, right?)
  2. Execute: "./R3trans -d"
  3. Attach the file "trans.log" which is located in "/usr/sap/D01/SYS/exe/uc/linuxx86_64/"

Additional to that I would suggest to open an incident on HAN-LM-INS-SAP component and open the system connection to your Operating System. This has to be checked directly on the system.

Cheers,
Andreas

Please find the below output for the R3trans -d :

% pwd
/sapmnt/D01/exe/uc/linuxx86_64
% R3trans -d
R3trans: Command not found.
% ./R3trans -d
Could not open the ICU common library.
The following files must be in the path described by
the environment variable "LD_LIBRARY_PATH":
libicuuc57.so, libicudata57.so, libicui18n57.so [/bas/777_REL/src/flat/nlsui0.c 1528] pid = 101165
LD_LIBRARY_PATH is currently set to <not set> [/bas/777_REL/src/flat/nlsui0.c 1531] pid = 101165

  • What about dh1adm?
  • Can you also attach the trans.log file once this statement has been executed?
  • Did you set the variable in the environment of the respective users? If yes, did you you proceed in SWPM?

Dear RAIM,

please execute this statement from "/usr/sap/D01/SYS/exe/uc/linuxx86_64/".

Did you set the variable in the environment of the respective users? If yes, did you you proceed in SWPM?

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

I am facing strange behavior for <SID>adm user environment variable, When I run command "su - <SID>adm" its promp starts with "%" which is different from hana user as below:

for hana user : "isap4hanas01:/home/ec2-user # su - dh1adm

dh1adm@isap4hanas01:/usr/sap/DH1/HDB00>"

for sap user: "isap4hanas01:/home/ec2-user # su - d01adm
%"

and /home/d01adm/bin is also empty.

So I cant run the "R3trans -d" from <SID>adm. I think this may be the issue. pls suggest.

Thanks

Hi Raim,

maybe it is not fully created and linked. Check for later phases in SWPM. Maybe this still happens.

What is the output of "R3trans -d" for dh1adm? Please run this command and attach the trans.log file which has been created in the same folder from which you run the statement.

Many thanks and best regards,

Andreas

Hi Andreas ,

R3trans -d command output from HANA and SAP user is as below:

HAHA user:

isap4hanas01:/home/ec2-user # su - dh1adm
dh1adm@isap4hanas01:/usr/sap/DH1/HDB00> R3trans -d
-sh: R3trans: command not found

SAP user:

isap4hanas01:/home/ec2-user # su - d01adm
% R3trans -d
R3trans: Command not found.

Thanks

Hi Andreas,

The "dh1adm" is Hanadb user, not SAP app user. If i run with that user result is below:

trans.log is not generated as below:

I didn't set the variable to the respective user, i set the through root user, and re-run the SWPM but same error. i never faced this issue for S4hana 1809 with SUSE 12. is this the new issue for S4HANA 1909. I have tried to use all the updated files for installation.

Thanks

RAIM.

Dear Raim,

please check if <SID>adm user can connect to your DB using "R3trans -d" statement. Please share the "trans.log" file once executed this statement from OSlevel.
Also: please attach the sapinst_dev.log file for further checking.

Please set the following parameter in the environment of <SID>adm user: dbms_type = hdb

Then re-run the SWPM.

In case issue still persists, please provide the below info.

  1. Logon to the application server as the <SID>adm user
  2. Execute R3trans -d using the <SID>adm user wher SWPM is running.
  3. Provide the output and trans.log file.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Sriram,

The note 2653095 suggested as below:
Set the parameter:
dbms/type = hdb

Where do i have to set, I have set that in DEFAULT.PFL, and Instance .PFL (/usr/sap/D01/SYS/profile/) and also set env by "set env dbms/type = hdb" from root at os. but still the same issue.

Thanks
