Nested Exception by saving an Analysis for Office Excel workbook without data - AfO 2.7 SP4

Hi all,

I hope you can help me with my problem with the Analysis for Office AddIn in Excel (2.7 SP4 or 2.7.400.87314) in one of our customer environments.

I am trying to save a workbook with a linked query on the BO server. The query-provider does not own any data and the query-option "Remove data before saving" is activated. While trying to save, I receive a nested exception with the description "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Unfortunately, the error window does not show more details.

We urgently need this constellation with the "Remove data before saving" option, because the query variables that are displayed in the worksheet should also be empty while opening the workbook.

We reproduced this error in another environement with 2.7 SP4 (different version of excel ans also a different version of the BusinessObjects server). After updating to SP5, the error disappeared. But in my case it will not be possible to update AfO to SP5.

Does anyone of you have experiences with this error and perhaps found a solution (SAP Notes etc.) ?

Thanks for your support

Best Regards

André

Hi,

we have the same request, saving workbooks without data. I am not using "remove data before saving" but I refresh workbook on variables without any data (e.g. #). Perhaps this is a Workaround for you.

Hi Gregor,

thank you for your quick respond. Currently we use this workaround in some workbooks, but the query variables, which are displayed directly in the worksheet, are not deleted during saving in this case. In queries without prompt there is no big deal with this, but in queries with a prompt the last selection always appear in the background and irritate the customer.

We have even extended this workaround by saving the workbook with white font in the cells with the variables. And during the opening of the sheet an VBA macro set the font color back to black. But in this case we must save every wokbook in the xlsm format on the BO server and additionally we are not sure, that we get some further problems with VBA on some customer clients later on.

Have a nice day

André
