Changing BOMs and Production models

I work for Riverdale Mills and we are trying to make some changes - change the way costs are calculated, update the bill of materials as well as production models for all our products. I want to understand the way formulas are incorporated in SAP and how do we make a mass update. We use SAB by Design.
