RFC data transfer in BODS

Hi folks ,

I need few clarifications on RFC data transfer BODS.Please help me.

  1. While using RFC data transfer , it is mandate in DEV to do generate and execute for Dat and Aba file ,so that file is created in run time and placed in file server in SAP i.e,AL11.
  2. Again in QAS placing the same file in SAP file server and make execute.

In the scenario right now ,in dev what can I see is the program (aba) is not in AL11 but still it executing successfully.

Thanks in advance ,

Vinaya

You are mixing the questions a bit, in my opinion..

    • RFC streaming works for generate_and_execute as well as execute_preloaded. If you look into the ABAP code, you will find one parameter related to streaming which - if set - calls the streaming RFCs every 10000 rows.
    • In generate_and_execute mode no abap file is uploaded, hence you can't see it on the server. The source code is sent as a table parameter. Look at the ABAP code of RFC_INSTALL_AND_RUN and you will get the idea. BODS is using that very function or a better suited derivative of that.
    • In QAS you will not have developer permissions and hence above RFC_INSTALL_AND_RUN will fail. Therefore you have to upload the abap programs, transport them like any other to QAS and use the datastore setting execute_preloaded. Then BODS will not try to generate the code but expect the ABAP program to be present and just execute it. As the source code of the ABAP is the same in both cases, RFC streaming works in both cases.

    Hello!

When RFC data transfer method used, SAP application server streams data from the source SAP system directly to the Data Services data flow process using remote function calls (RFC).

You can read about Data transfer methods here.

ABAP program stored at Generated ABAP directory, if you check datastore options, you will see it in SAP section.

Also, see Execution steps, to get clear about execution sequence for an ABAP job.
