Hi experts,

We intend to migrate our SAP ECC source into the SAP cloud , but no change scheduled for our BW (we will keep it always in the client local).

In that case , what are the BW impacts and post/pre checks that we have to perform ?

Thank you a lots for your help.

Hi crossmen crossmen,

My two cents on this: get professional help from SAP consulting or an SAP Partner to aid you on that cloud migration options for your ECC.

AFAIK there is no ECC on the SAP Cloud - just S/4HANA - which means it not a simple 1:1 migration option. So, if you are planning on just moving your current ECC implementation to the cloud there two data center options: SAP HEC or one of the supported hyperscalers. The main difference is that on HEC SAP is responsible for your ECC installation. Whereas on a hyperscaler you will be in charge of backups, updates, upgrades, notes, etc.

Furthermore, if you choose to go for an S4/HANA migration to the cloud (private or public), chances are that you will probably not need a BW system. The main reason is that S4/HANA is based on HANA - which already provides you with an in-memory OLAP engine capable of giving you near-real-time analytics and direct access to your transactional data. All you would require is a UI front-end. Fortunately, SAP has a solution for it called SAP Cloud Analytics - which provides you with a front-end UI that could potentially replace your BW requirements while connecting to your HANA system to consume Calculation Views (simple projections, all types of joins or star-joins).

Hope this information helps your decision.

Best regards,
Ivan
