File hyperlink not working for Crystal Reports in BI 4.2

We are using Crystal Reports 2016 (SP 5) and I am testing using a hyperlink to a file. It works fine locally, But attempting to use the hyperlink on the BI platform fails (4.2 SP 5). I have tried different methods to create the hyperlink. I either get a bad URL (trying to open a file on the server's C: drive) to a time out error using a UNC path (it is adding a https: to the beginning of the UNC string). Any ideas on how to fix this?

As I stated before. It not a website but a file location. And it appears (for security reasons) blocked by the web browsers.

In same cases, this error is caused by the target website's configuration. That was the situation for me today. See Note 2988275.

From what I am reading, I believe you are right. Unfortunately for my client, it is an issue. I have a SAP rep that is assisting me with this. So far they have not found any solution yet.

I had forgotten that I had posted this. But it is still not working. I put the file:// in front the UNC path. I works fine locally, and on the server using the Crystal Reports client, but not on the server. I can right-click and copy the link and put in another tab and the file opens (at least on IE).

In Chrome when I right click and select 'Open link in new tab' I get 'about.blank#blocked' . In FireFox (right click and copy path), It shows path in the tab and on the address bar, but does nothing.

I am testing with a file on a shared drive that our BOE has rights to (there is an MS-Access data source on that drive)

if you google 'about.blank#blocked' - there are several explanations to the behaviour you see.
I have a feeling that what you see is a security feature, not a problem.

hyperlink means it has to be HTTP or a HTTPS URL, so you have to publish the file to a web or webapp server to access it.
If you're providing UNC path , then it is not a hyperlink and the path has to be accessible from the BOE server OS with user that runs SIA.

What is the error you get and what is the hyper link pointing to?
