Matl status in Material master

Hi All,

We are trying to do a costing for next year and we have noticed that we have different material status across material.

Can somebody explain me the significance for X-plant matl status in Basic data tab,Plant-sp.matl status in MRP1 tab, Plant-sp.matl status in Costing1 tab, Plant-sp.matl status O in Purchasing 1 tab?

Does all relate to same thing. If yes, why do we have 3 status? If not what is the significant in each tab?

Should we keep the status same across all the tab?

Please suggest.

Kind Regards

S Sinha

Additional info: there are four different tabs that include the Material status:

- Basic Data 1: X-plant matl status field.

- MRP 1: Plant-sp.matl status field

- Purchasing: Plant-sp.matl status field

- Costing 1: Plant-sp.matl status field

The last three tabs should have the same material status, since they have the same description and we tested one of the materials changing the status in one of these the tabs, and the status was automatically updated in the other two tabs. Nevertheless, please confirm that this is how it works so that we can focus on one of the tabs and assume the rest will be updated automatically. The issue comes with the Basic data 1, as the material status has a different description “X-plant matl status”. Could you please let us know why it has a different name? This makes the Master Data maintenance more challenging since the material status needs to be updated in several tabs, but I guess there must be a reason why this was set up that way.

If we mirror/copy the status from Costing 1 tab to Basic data 1, so that all data is consistent across tabs. What is the impact of changing the status in Basic Data 1? Does it drive any calculations in the background?

It is key that the Master Data is consistent across all the tabs, not only for costing purposes but to calculate the Quarterly stock Provision.

Is there is a way of updating the basic data status automatically?

Material Status in SAP

Material Status Purpose:

When any organisation starts the business either they sell the material to other organisation for making finish products or assembly products or directly sell to the consumer. For these activity they hold the material on different stages. For e.g. An organisation having huge inventory and management want to optimise inventory, they want to consume at specific and very old inventory, at same time they want to be same material would be stop procurement. Thus Material status is block for procurement and inventory movement is allowed.

Material Status can be blocked at
1. Client Level.
2. Plant specific.

1. Client Specific Blocked .

You can blocked material at client level when we require at all plant same status.(Basic Data tab)

2. Plant specific Material Status:

When we require block status on plant specific then use to maintain this view.(Purchasing, MRP,Costing views)

I believe what this is saying is that if you have a material that needs to be blocked only at a specific plant, the Plant-sp matl status is selected and you would enter the plant (ie GB10). However, if you want the block to be put across the board (ie at all plants), then X-plant matl status is selected as this would be cross plant (ie all plants).
