hi. i'm new to sap and have been working as a java/microsoft developer for the past few years.

i wish to start in sap, but unsure which field to go to. Can anyone suggest to me how to start a career in sap? should i venture into functional area or into technical side?

thank you.

    Hi,

As far as I'm concerned you can continue working in Java and do whatever you like. It depends a bit on the type (functionality) of the applications, you need to build.

    You can discover at

    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/java

what can be done. A must read are the key topics on that page.

There is off course Web Dynpro (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/webdynpro)

And don't miss the forum either at Java Development

    Lynnt

As said continue in JAVA as you know SAP also required Java programming in some of the components like Web Dynpro in Netweaver Technalogies. If you are intrested to get in to SAP learn ABAP which is programming language for SAP. Eith Your JAVA experience and ABAP Skills you will be the hot Property technically.

If you have any questions please feel free to post here and experts will answer

    Hope this helps

      Hi. Thanks for the reply.

If I’m not in a sap environment, is it possible to learn on my own? Any recommendations on where/how should I start? Any recommended books or materials?

I hope to have some hands-on experience while learning, but is there a mini ‘sap’ environment for me to explore?

As in java/Microsoft, I can set up the environment to learn and practice at the same time. Is it possible for sap?

      thank you.
