WE11 Idoc deletions and client copy

I have an SQL 2008 R2 enterprise database, and have deleted approx 60G of idocs using WE11, the rows appear to have the entries removed but the space has not been returned to the database when I check it in DB02, and from what I have read I may have to execute a shrink command on the datafiles.

Couple of questions

1. I am about to do a client copy and the reason for the deletions exercise was to speed up this client copy operation. Will the copy because the space appears not to have been returned to the DB take as long ? Or will it speed up as although the space has not been returned to the DB the rows have been deleted ?

2. Should I run the shrink command ?

Thanks for any help

Hi Anthony,

In answer to your #1 question, no, it won't take more time than needed to copy.

Furthermore, after deleting or archiving, there are poststeps you can follow described in the SAP Knowledge Base Article 1721843. You need to run SHRINK only if you plan to release the space back to the OS.
