Number of users per S/4 Hana 1809 instance

Dear SAP

I am new to SAP CAL. Hence below basic query.

We have 10 partner licenses. Let's say I want to activate the S/4 Hana 1809 instance in SAP CAL, then,

a. should I create 10 separate instances of S/4 Hana 1809 to avail these licenses? OR

b. Can I create only 1 instance and then create 10 separate users within S/4 to access that instance? In this case, will each of these users will have a separate remote desktop connection to access the S/4 instance at the same time?

Thanks,

Baskhar

Hi Baskhar,

First of all the prerequisite to bring your partner license is to order the SAP CAL subscription.

You can start with the free trial license agreement to evaluate the solution. During the trial period you don't need an S/4 license.

Regarding the partner license itself, the metric is users and not systems/instances. Hence the correct answer is B.

The number of remote desktop connection is a matter of OS licensing and is complete independent from the SAP partner license or the SAP CAL subscription. SAP CAL does not provision own distributions of Windows but publicly available Windows images, i.e. you can get the same Windows image directly from the cloud provider. Hence my recommendation is to contact the cloud provider support if you need more than two parallel RD connections.

Hi Stanimir

Thanks for your quick response. In the case of option B, what is the option for me to enable all 10 users to access the S/4 Hana 1809 instance at the same time?

Many Thanks,

Baskhar
