Hierarchy not showing

Former Member

Hi,

For my report, I have Hierarchy as well as Hierarchy nodes as selection criteria for Cost Center. Hierarchy is defaulted to a particular one already in properties. But when i change it during selection, it doesnt show me the new one in the report. What could be the reasons for this?

Thanks

Fran

Hi Fran,

Are you saying that you have a Hierarchy variable and also hierarchy selected in the query definition?

I have a Hierarchy variable and also a Hierarchy Node variable.

at the same time, Hierarchy (not the node, but the hierarchy group) is defaulted in properties.

When I change Hierarchy at runtime, it should change accordingly also. But it doesnt, instead, it shows the defaulted one in report.

Thanks

Fran

WOuld it be okay to remove the default set hierarchy from the query definition? If you need a default you can assign it as a default value to the variable...

You mean to the default value of Hierarchy Variable?

Wouldnt it be the same thing?

Also, it shouldnt make a difference in this case either? or is that the way it should be done.

Please explain, little confused.

Thanks

I included a Hierarchy variable and defaulted the hierarchy there, instead of defaulting it in properties of Cost Center. But now the selection "Cost Center Hierarchy" appears twice in selection.

Why is that?

Hi Fran,

Do you have 2 variables with the same name, becasue one variable included in the query can only appear once in the selection screen...

well it seems like there are two variables for Hierarchy, which doesn make sense to me anyway.

One appeared when I selected the option Variables for Hierarchy selection in Cost Center Properties.

The other one is already there, but dont know how to get rid of it.

Thanks

I got it...thanks anyway.

I just needed to do it all over again and it worked.

Okay, another problem.

Now i have a Hierarchy variable as well as a Hierarchy Node variable.

At runtime, during selection, when I select a different cost center hierarchy, shouldnt it then show me the Cost Center Hierarchy nodes accordingly also? But it doesnt. it still shows the same nodes from previous hierarchy that was initially selected as default.

Is this normal or am I missing something?

Thanks

Hi Fran,

Its normal. Only when you disconnect won't you get the previously selected entries in selection Screen.

George,

I think you misunderstood the situation. Here it goes:

I have a hierarchy var defaulted to hierarchy ABC

Have a hierarchy NODE var also that shows nodes for ABC.

When I change hierarchy value from ABC to DEF,

Hierarchy node var should now show me nodes for DEF.

It doesnt. It still shows nodes for ABC during selection.

Hope I was clearer.

I think this should not be normal.

What do you say

Hi Fran,

You can set up the variables to show the nodes for the new hierarchy: You have a variable for the hierarchy and also one for the node.

Bhanu,

The way it was previously done was that I just needed to select the hierarchy and the nodes would show in the variable accordingly.

From what you are saying, I need a seperate hier node variable for each hierarchy?

that will be a lot of vars.

Please advise, I'm stuck.

Thanks

Fran

No no, no separate variable for each hierarchy's nodes. Follow the steps under <b>Variable hierarchy – variable hierarchy nodes</b> in this link:

Hope this helps...
