How can we increase the length of voucher indentifier.

How can we increase the length of voucher identifier. Currently it is allowing me to add identifier not more then 3 digit but i need to have identifier of 6 digit.Will this will impact the Voucher code generation also? as the identifier is used as prefix in code generation XXX-YYYY-YYYY-YYYY etc
