Dear Shantanu,
To add new media components in smartedit you have to follow steps given below:
1) After login to smartedit you have to choose your website and click on homepage or pages button in Staged section.
2) In the top-right corner, you have to click Preview v and choose basic edit option.
3) You will see new buttons in the left-top corner. Click one of them: + Add component
4) Now you can choose component which you want to put on your website, drag this component on the page and upload your file.
5) When you add your component you have to back to the home website by < Sites button in the top-left corner.
6) The last step is to click the SYNC button in Staged section.
That is all.
