Category visibility restriction feature not working?

Hello Experts,

In Apparel Store I create a brand new category at the root level, and a brand new product in that category - all in the Online version. I set category visibility = “employeegroup” (also tried empty) in Backoffice.

Then I log in to the site with my user (which is obviously a member of “customergroup”) and I can see this category and this product in the frontend when navigating directly to product or category.

Also I see the product in Solr search.

Not sure what am I missing - trying to restrict the visibility for that category / product.
