How to Create Buy X Get Y Promotion using Rule engine

Need to create Promotion on the basis of counter if the Customer purchase Product X 3 times then fired promotion and add 1 product as a gift automatically from the Gift category to the customer cart. And show the Gift product after submitting the Order on Thank you page. Need help how to create rule and template for this.
