Caching feature for populators

Hello everyone,

In our system, there is a custom extension called psdtocache which provides caching feature for Populators. Because of this extension, data populated with the configured populators are not affected from language change of the store. Has anybody heard about this extension before? And is it meaningful to use caching for populators? If it is, what are the benefits of it?

P.S: In the readme file of the extension there is a wiki link about the extension but it's dead. (https://wiki.hybris.com/display/~/psdtocache+extension) And I couldn't find anything about the extension on any of the hybris websites.
