Adding custom filed in promotion rule screen in back office

What is the best approach for showing a custom field on promotion rule screen in back office? Any pointer will be helpful.

We need only this custom field and creating an new backoffice extension is over kill.

The way it shows in HMC by adding in core-ites.xml and naming the attributes in localized property file. Is there any way to add the filed in backoffice? The steps involved.

Added the custom field in Abstract Rule and the column is coming on backoffice screen for promotion rule.

If you have a custom attribute to be shown for promotions in backoffice, you should create a custom extension. Even if it is for one attribute. Most probably, in future you will have more requirements and further customization needed.
