Product in multiple categories shows up with incorrect bread crumb on PDP

I have a product in two categories. When I drill down the facets to the sub-category page and then click on the product to go to the PDP, the breadcrumb that is displayed is for the other category.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to make it work correctly for both categories?

The bread crumb will always show the first category that is listed against the product. It doesn't matter what navigation path you use to get to the product page.

I am not a solr expert but is that a caveat of solr? I just switched the order of the categories and it proves your statement - not that I doubted it. Thanks.

It's not a Solr restriction, as Solr will return whatever values you feed it through the value provider. The restriction, to the extent I have experimented with, comes from the fact that the OOB bread crumb in Hybris is a page bread crumb and not a navigation bread crumb. So, the PDP goes back to the product catalogue, checks the primary category hierarchy (first category that product belongs to, preceeded by the first parent category that category belongs to and so on) and displays that in the bread crumb.

I am sure you could create a new compenent that would take the navigation history into consideration and show the bear crumb accordingly, but to my understanding that would be a customization and I've not experimented with that.

The OOB faceting leaves much to be desired. I am going to look into modifying so that a search can be differentiated from a category selection etc. Thanks for the information.
