Can a sales order be created in reference to both a contract and a quotation?

I am extracting data to BI and some reports need to see all sales orders that were created against a contract, or all sales orders created against a particular quote. My question is would there be a scenario where a sales order is created in reference to both a contract and a quotation?

Hi Window,

It depends upon the configuration that is setup in your core system. If it is possible to create a contract from a quote in the system, and then create a sales order in reference to that contract, then you essentially have a sales order that is a reference to both a contract and a quote. The document flow would reflect this but so would the reference document links at the header/item depending on where the reference link is recorded. It's all a reflection of the business process that is setup in the core system and how the document flow is recorded along all the steps.

Window,

Theoretically it is possible, but not for the same sales order item. A sales order item can have only one reference document, but in the same sales order an item can have a preceeding document of type quotation, and another item can have a preceeding document of type contract.

Hello Window,

I feel this is more of a Business process question then a system question. I think we can set the system to allow a document flow such as Quotation to Contract to Sales Order and then if you look for preceding documents for the Sales Order both Quotation and Contract will be displayed.

Have you looked in your system whether a scenario like this is set / allowed / existing?

Thanks,

Had you tried in your system, you would have got an answer to your query.
