In the article [hybris Business Event Extensions - Technical Guide][1] Jochen and Matthew provide good information on integrating Hybris information into Hybris Marketing via Active MQ and ESP. In particular it is mentioned that: "Please note: The ActiveMQ Message Broker and the Event Stream Processor are not part of the hybris 5.5 release. They need to be licensed and obtained separatly." My understanding is that ESP is available as part of HANA, and branded SAP HANA Smart Data Streaming. 1) Would it be possible to use the latter instead of an additional ESP component? 2) Is there any additional cost for using SAP HANA Smart Data Streaming, or is it included as part of SAP HANA licensing? 3) Any thoughts/advise on how the integration would be different than what was explained on the article? Sincerely, Rafael [1]: https://wiki.hybris.com/display/release5/hybris+Business+Event+Extensions+-+Technical+Guide
Good question, on the other hand it would be nice to get information about the necessity of using ActiveMQ?

I wasn't involved in any architecture decisions but I imagine one reason it is designed that way so hybris Commerce can fire and forget and let another system (ActiveMQ) guarantee the delivery of the messages. Without a queue in between hybris Commerce would need to handle delivery failure, retry logic and hybris Commerce is better served processing store front requests.
