Patching the MediaFilter

Hi, I would like to add a new custom MediaFilter extending the existing MediaFilter, but the current MediaFilter is inside the mediaweb extension where i cannot change the web.xml, any thoughts on how to use the Custom MediaFilter in my own extension.
