Custom Configuration of ClassificationAttributeEditorChipFactory

We have some classification attributes which we would like to be individually configurable. There is an entry in the forum which suggests that we should be able to configure ClassificationAttributeEditorChipFactory to provide this functionality but I don't know how we can do this. Has anybody else successfully configured the factory or does anybody know how to do this? We want to be able to give different access levels to individual attributes of the classifications, so (for instance) for a classification 'Car' with attributes 'doors','wheels' and 'engine' we would like to be able to assign access rights so that the Cardoormanager group has full access to doors but the Cardoorviewer group only has read access.

If there is another way of implementing this which anybody knows about that would also be very useful.
