Initialization and Update with Impex

Hi,

I just read https://wiki.hybris.com/display/release5/Initialization+and+Update+of+the+hybris+Commerce+Suite and I have still some questions.

As I understand the Init will drop the tables from the database en create all the data again from the impex files. The update will not drop the tables but only run the impex files.

  1. As I understand the Init and the Update call will always run the same impex files (assumed that every checkbox is checked)

  2. As I understand you should always use the insert_update action, because if you use the insert call, it will always insert a new item or it will conflict with another already existing item and if you only use the update call it is possible that the item doesn't exist, so there is nothing to update.

  3. If you want to change the structure of the classificatons for example, you need to do this by impex files. Because if you do it manually and some weeks later you will run an update, it is possible that all the manually changes are lost. So every update in the hmc you should do by impex files.

Thanks for you response

    1. Yes

    2. Well in most cases unless it doesnt really matter to have multiple rows.

    3. Well this is a general rule for anything, if you make data changes manually and running impex undoes some of those changes then you regret not having scripted the changes in the first place.
