Need better explaination around VariantCategory limit of 3

In the 5.1 wiki (https://wiki.hybris.com/display/release5/Creating+a+VariantCategory+Using+hMC) it states the following: "You can define other values instead such as weight, length, finish, experience, and so on, so long as you only define three". Does this mean that in each catalog I can only have 3 VariantCategories or that each product can be identified by up to 3 VariantCategories?

The is predominantly a limitation of the B2B Accelerator UI, in that it only can render up to a 3 dimension grid. See productOrderForm.tag.
