Dear all, we need to set up a new company code due to restructuring. We will copy an existing company code to the new one. Currently our DEV system does not synchronize with Production (data is as old as of May-2017). My question is: in order to copy the existing Cocd to the new one, should we ask our SAP basis group to synchronize DEV with Production first so that we do it (create by copying) in DEV, then transport to Prod later? Thank you.
Your transactional data may be old, but what about your customizing and development?
If no configuration or development was performed that did not go through the DEV/QAS/PRD route - then you do not need to request a new copy from the Basis team.

Hi Veselina, thanks for your reply. For creating a new company, transactional data is not copied. From perspective of configuration, on our daily basis, most configurations are done in DEV, then released and transported to Production. In such case, do we still need to update DEV for configuration settings in order to copy to the new company? Thanks again.
jenny_wang what do you mean by most configurations, all customizing and development transports should go via DEV->QAS->PRD so that you can guarantee that the result of testing in DEV and QAS would be consistent with what you will have in PRD.
For a new company code you can always create some master data and perform whatever tests are required in DEV and QAS. If you need a lot of materials/customers etc. you can simply use LSMW or LTMC.
