Hi All,

We need your help to identify a logic for the below scenario,

we have one Sales org and 3 different plants

Slow moving material will be delivered from one plant and fast moving material will be delivered from another plant.

One material "XXXX" can be a slow moving material for one plant and fast moving for other 2 plants.

Could you please tell us how do we identify a solution how to determine delivering plant when a sales order is created for this scenario.

thanks

Prabhu

Hello,

How do you identify slow moving / fast moving Materials?

Can you maintain respective Delivering Plant in Material Master?

Thanks,

Hello Prabhu,

I think it is possible in standard SAP. But, you need to work with batch management and your material should be batch managed.

  • The batch should be activated at Plant level. Plant level activation of batches will help to have batch number uniqueness at Plant+Material. So product XXXX in Plant A will have batch B001 and in Plant B, it will be XXXX+B002. So, batch will change. Now, this is the driving factor here. In batches, we can record the characteristics like Slow moving and fast moving.
  • Create a characteristics CT04 with values Fast moving and slow moving(CT04).

You an think to have batch determination on sales order so that sorting of batches can be done on Fast moving or slow moving.

Please check Batch determination process on sales order

we are looking for, how to determine the delivering plant in sales order for the same material if it is slow mover in one plant and fast mover in other plants

Who is going to decide this? Business or an SD Consultant?

How many total materials are there?

You may consider creating a custom table/upload program having Plant, Material, Status i.e Slow moving or Fast moving & validity period and change the plant determination logic in program MV45AFZZ but this is again this will create more workload for the users.

BTW, how does the business know that material xxxx is slow moving in plant x and fast moving in plant y ? Using sales history or any other method? If it is based on the sales history, then they will have plant and material wise data with its status.

Discuss with business and update here about the outcome.

One material "XXXX" can be a slow moving material for one plant and fast moving for other 2 plants.

Ultimately, this material will be available in all three plants. Of course, material could be slow moving if its sell is less and fast moving if its sell is high and that too based on the sales history.

Today material xxxx is slow moving in plant A and fast moving in plant B & C. What if sale of material xxxx goes high this year in plant A & B and low in plant C in that case material will become slow moving in Plant C and fast moving in plant A & B. How will you handle this in future?

Or is it fixed that material XXXX is remain going to be slow moving in Plant A and fast moving in Plant B & C? Please confirm.

What is the problem is material XXXX exists in all three plants and being sold whether it is slow moving or fast moving? What is the exact does the business want to achieve ? Please elaborate more on this.

Regards

Kamlesh

Hello Kamalesh,

Yes, agree the fast and slow material movement will change for all plants in future. This is the solution logic which we are looking for, how to determine the delivering plant in sales order for the same material if it is slow mover in one plant and fast mover in other plants.

thanks.

I feel, the requirement itself looks weird due to the fact, a material would be considered as a fast moving and slow moving depending upon the orders the seller get. Having said that, logically, the same material cannot be a slow moving in one plant and fast moving in another plant. Please explain the business process how you conclude this.

HI,

Thanks for your response. Client is an after sales dealer. 3 plants are in 3 different regions. So in 2 regions the material is a fast mover and in 1 region the material is a slow mover.

There was no issue earlier when we had only 2 plants. In case of slow mover we used to define the delivering plant in material master and in case of fast mover we removed the delivering plant from material master and maintained in customer master.

Now we have our third plant activated and we are in need of a solution to solve this delivering plant logic.

thanks.
