Error - Import Brands

Dear experts,

Does anyone have issues importing brands into SAP Marketing Cloud 1905?

I am using standard tile for brands. I downloaded the example file which looks like this:

But even if I try to upload the example file, with no changes whatsoever, it gives me an error: Not possible to import brands.

Is there an issue with this functionality?

Hi Guilherme,
this seems like a generic error message coming from Brand UI component, not from backend, so it gives unfortunately not a detailed error message.

Could be several reasons, if you havent changed anything to the file, it could also be e.g. authorization issue. You could also check if you find the more detailed error message in the application log.
I checked the upload on in our internal systems, and the example file could be uploaded fine. Nevertheless when saving it once within excel (even without changing anything), then i got also this error message. Have you saved the file in Excel itself, try not to. Just open the downloaded example file with e.g. Notepad++, and make your changes directly there.

Thanks for your inputs.

As a matter of fact I was now able to import the example file. And I could also import some of my brands. I have a list of over 3,000 brands to import. However I cannot import all of them. I imported 5 of them, and it workend. Then I importef 5 more, and it works...then i imported 10 brands, and it worked...then I tried to import 20 brands, and it won't work.

I have been able to import 50 out of 3,000 brands. Apparently this is very unstable and is not working for a larger amount of lines in the file.

It shoudn't be this hard! this is so simples: ID, LANGUAGE and DESCRIPTION, simple as that! But I think there is some kind of bug in this file or process.

I am thinking about raising a ticket to SAP and see what they have to say about it. I strugged with this on my last project (onpremise 1709) and now I am struggling again in Marketing Cloud 1905.

Hi Guilherme,
sorry to hear that, true - should be working better. I think indeed it is better to open a ticket, especially as in case of errors (can be multiple reasons) just a generic error information is raised. To check the correct component you can just click in the launchpad on the user button -> then on the i-button -> you get detailed information on the component you currently are. In this case the application component is CEC-MKT-ISG-ME. You can also check the error messages of the backend in the console -> browser -> F12 -> Network -> check for the erronous backend call (filter /sap/cuan/csv_import), eventually you can extract some useful error information from the response. Best is you also directly attach the files you upload to the ticket. best regards, Sophie.

Dear sophie ,

I raised a ticket for SAP and they helped me. This is very tricky. The file will not allow certain characters and also will not allow you to have the same DESCRIPTION. Equal descriptions will be considered duplicates and you will not be able to upload your file.

I found it funny because usually this is validated by ID's and not descriptions. Because in my scenario I do have same description brands with different ID's I had to write something else in the descriptions:

ID 1 - BRAND 1

ID 2 - BRAND 1 (v1)

Anyway, I think the log should give us details on the specific error.

But we made it!
