Creating a template to stop SAP instances, and wanted to use the characteristics that I have applied.

I can only add Systems or Instances to the "Entities" list.

Hi Daren,

Characteristics are supposed to be used as an additional filter criteria or to be used as constraints for custom processes, hooks, etc.

What you could do to create a template for the instances where the characteristic applies:

You go to Operations -> and from the "Group by" dropdown you choose the characteristics entry:

Once you applied this filter you'll see all the instances/hosts/systems which you added to the characteristics.

Next step would be to select the operation via the mass operation menu and then create an operation template out of it to schedule it.

Best regards

Sebastian

Hi Daren,

happy to read that my suggestions helped you!

To create the operation template for starting the systems, which are already in target state please try the following:

Go to Automation Studio -> Operation Template and click on Create

On the next screen provide the necessary details like Name of the operation template.

In the "Steps" Tab, please select the box "New Step" on the right hand side you can then choose from the dropdown the operation you want to execute. (You can also combine several steps by clicking the + button next to the box):

Once this is done, again select the box and click on the + button within the "Entities" menu on the right hand side. Then you can select the entities on which the operation should be executed (you can't filter on characteristics here):

In my case I selected the entities on system level, you can also select on instance level.

-> After performing those steps, please save and now it should be possible to schedule this template

Best regards

Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the information. This has worked brilliantly for the Stop automation task.

The only issue I have is that I cannot repeat the template creation for Starting systems as there are no instances in the target state currently, so I cannot save the selection as a template.

I will have to create this template when all systems are offline and then I will have a template for future scheduling for both Stopping and Starting.

Thanks for your assistance.
