IBP Supply Planning concept question: time series vs order based?

Hi there,

We have started implementing Control Tower, and later we want supply planning in IBP, too. I need to understand the concept and best practices related. We can work with time series data as well as order based data. When to use which? Is order based planning for short term, while time series for long term? Does it make sense to work with one of the 2 methods, or is it recommended to combine them? If so, there must be some data copy steps between the 2 planning areas, since the structure of data is different. In case it's recommended to use the 2 methods on different horizons, is it suggested to publish planning results back to ECC from both planning areas?

Thanks,

Ádám

Hi,

It depends on the business requirements time series or order series based planning solution can be deployed.

We can work with time series data as well as order based data?

Yes. It is possible to work with both data (time and order series).

When to use which? Is order based planning for short term, while time series for long term?

Order based planning covers short term planning and time series planning covers the mid-long term planning (tactical, operations and response).

Support of tactical (time series) supply planning in the context of S&OP

Unconstrained heuristics or constrained optimization

Operational and Response Planning using Priority Heuristic

Generate a finite capacity supply plan based on prioritized and categorized demand such as orders and forecasts

Does it make sense to work with one of the 2 methods, or is it recommended to combine them?

It is possible to work with both data (time series and order series) in one model (planning area) using Response and Supply module and it is easy to analyze the data for faster decisions.

If two different models (planning area) implemented for time series and order series then the data transfer to the ECC system different and need to combine two models for control tower analysis.

Data integration apporcah for time series CPI-DS and order series SDI (Smart data integration).
