SAP Marketing: Allocate Budgets to Budget Plans

Hello Community,

while the configuration of planning in SAP Marketing (on-Prem) a question for allocating of budgets to budget plans appear.

We want to have users with roles that not only can view the budget plan, but also can add budgets to the budget plan. Important is, that they should not have the right to edit the budget plan itself. They only should add budgets to the plan und view it. Is there any possibility to implement this case?

Kind regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

There is currently no way in the application to access a budget plan in display only. The only way to view it would be using reporting. We deliver standard queries that can be accessed using Analytics and Report Gallery which can provide this display view.

It is not possible currently to achieve the use case that you are describing. You could use our Jam integration for collaboration and have the marketing expert post his needs and have the marketing manager review and update the budget plans accordingly.

Best Regards

Isabelle

Hi Robert,

I am not sure if I completely get your question. Currently, the budget plans app is only available in edit mode. It is not possible for read-only users to view budget plans. We are aware that this is gap and it is on our roadmap to allow read-only users to view budget plans.

If user has edit access to a budget plan, then has access to the complete budget plan. It is not possible to restrict the user to only change certain "sections" of it and not other. Which I believe is what you are asking. We did heard of such edit granularity, however, we have not planned to provide this as of yet. With the current solution, there might be ways to achieve it by having specific budget plans, depending if you are using an on-premise deployment or a cloud one.

Let me know if I answered your questions and if you have further points to address.

Kind Regards

Isabelle

Hi Isabelle,

thank you for your answer. I know the concept of restriction for planning and have studied the documentation of SAP Marketing before that question.

Is there any workaround that let the marketing experts only view the budget plan? So that they can't edit, but view them?

So, for example, if a marketing manager creates a budget plan for EMEA> Brand A and a Marketing Expert needs a new budget, we want the marketing expert to add a budget to the plan as a proposal.

Do you know any way to implement this and get a higher granularity than in the standard?

Kind regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

In the on-premise deployment, we are using the area of responsibility that allows to restrict the planning scope of a budget plan. The planning scope is composed of the 1st dimensions of the planning model, the marketing area and the calendar year for which the marketing area assigned to the planning model is valid for. For example, if one manager is in charge of the EMEA region for Brand A, you could create a specific budget plan for EMEA > Brand A where only this manager can access this budget plan. Using the Dimensions Relationships app, your can also control which values fits for which between dimensions.

Find below links to our documentation which can help for the setup.
