Using the Data Transfer Workbench for Importing Financial Activity

Hello:

I have a Journal Entry data (G/L transactions) template that can be used with the Data Transfer Workbench (DTW).

How would I "enter" data into this template and, ultimately, import this data into B1 to account for financial activity for a fiscal year or even opening balances?

Thank you!

John

Hello:

DTW has Excel templates inbuilt for data import. Inbuilt templates are located under `C: \Program Files (x86)\SAP\Data Transfer Workbench\Templates\Templates` where DTW is installed.

(DTW templates for Journal Entry are located under `C: \Program Files (x86)\SAP\Data Transfer Workbench\Templates\Templates\Financials\Journal Entry` folder)

I am not sure of your template, however considering that it is same as DTW inbuilt template, you will need to:

  1. Prepare data import files in Csv or Txt format (I recommend Csv from past experiences). Dtw inbuilt templates are excel template files (.xlt) where in you enter data manually and save completed files as `Csv` or `Txt` files.
  2. Open DTW (login with `manager` or `admin` level user account). Tools -> Import Data -> Transactional Data -> Add New Data -> Financials (expand row and select Journal Entry) -> Select all of template Csv (or Txt) files created (click ... once and you can select files individually) -> Review Mapping Rules, Source Data and Target Data in following screens -> Run Simulation -> If no errors are generated, Select `Ignore All Errors and Process Valid Records` to import data.

If Simulation produces any errors, review data and structure of import files, and run Step 2 again. Depending on size and structure of your G/L data, be prepared for few re-runs of DTW import until all of data is imported successfully. There are sample import files located under `C: \Program Files (x86)\SAP\Data Transfer Workbench\Templates\Samples\1. Add New Data\Financials\Journal Entry` folder where DTW is installed.

Thanks, Nagarajan!

Actually, I meant what data specifically needs to be in the spreadsheet?

Hi,

Instead of DTW, you can use built-in function from SAP under Utilities->Date Import/Export-->Import from Excel->Select Journal Entry.

Note:

1. The file should be saved in txt format without header information.
