My 90 day trial expired for ASE server, I extended to the 1.5 trail period and received a .lic file. I copied the .lic file to the license folder and renamed the .lic file from the 90 day trial. The server will not start, what am I supposed to do withe .lic file from the 1.5 extension period? Do I need to re-install the ase using the new .lic file?
I didn't have a chance to compare the license files last night, we had an after hours work function. I'll spend time tonight and over the weekend and let you know what I find. I do appreciate your time and help... Thanks for the location of the error log. Again thanks for your help...

The ASE errorlog is usually located in the /opt/sybase/ASE-16_0/install folder, or wherever the install folder is for your ASE environment. I usually is named SERVERNAME.log, where SERVERNAME is the name of your specific ASE instance. When you first start an ASE instance it looks for a valid license and will print the relevant error if it cannot find it for any reason.

Neither of the files you provided is the ASE errorlog, but the sybase-1.txt file does point to the structure of the license file needing the SERVER line. Compare both license files you have and verify the line is there.
As an example, here is a snippet of a valid license file we use - note the SERVER line that has the sever name and its hostid (usually the eth0 MAC address, and a port number.

I moved the 90 day re-named license file out of the licenses folder and put the license sent for the 18 month trial in the licenses folder and the server will not start. It seems the server doesn't recognize the license file, the log shows it tried to read it. Do you know if I'm supposed to un-install ase and reinstall and some how during the install the ase will recognize and use the 18 month trial license? Attached are two log files.sybase-1.txtsysam-2.txt

Try moving the old license file to a different folder and leave the new file in the /lilcenses folder and restart ASE.
You don't mention whether the server uses a License Server or not, but we'll assume you are not using a license server. You could also post the errorlog that would have some kind of error messages we could help you with.
