Hello BASIS gurus,
I am trying to find configuration proof from an SAP user client, showing that change transport logs in SAP are retained for at least a year or more. Where would I find those configuration settings? In STMS? Or where? What steps do I perform to find that information?
You have to implement your own script to remove old transport logs. That is normally made by using "tp clearold" with the necessary parameters.
If you have no script in place, logs for transports will be kept forever.

There are some parameters involved and maybe the note 41732 - Deletion of data in transport directory would help you. As far as I remember when you delete the files using the "tp clearold all pf=TP_DOMAIN_<SID>.PFL" command it takes the parameters mentioned in the note into consideration. Check Parameters for the tp Function CLEAROLD for the default values. If they are not set then the default values will be considered when you run the tp clearold all from the OS level. The command basically deletes (rm) files from the cofiles, log and the olddata directory and moves (mv) files from the data to olddata directory. The log files CHECK.LOG and CLEAROLD.LOG will be created when you run "tp check all" and "tp clearold all" commands. You may want to look for these logs in the DIR_TRANS/tmp directory (if available) from any previous executions.

If you want to prove that year-old transport logs still exist, you could look for them within STMS to see. As Thomas says, it's not a configuration option, but a process that may or may not be scripted to run, or be run manually from time to time.
But, if you go into STMS, pick your relevant system, and look at the import history, you can then just change the date range of history you're interested in (change the filter for Time Interval). Then, pick a transport and select the Logs button to see if they are there.
It may be that the detailed logs have been cleared out after some time, but the overall transport history remains, and that may be sufficient for your audit purposes. It also may be that logs and history are retained, but the actual transport files are archived or deleted to save disk space, which again may be perfectly sufficient for audit purposes.

Thanks. Wasn’t particularly interested in deleting them, but just finding them in hopes they’d all be in the logs. Thanks!
