Forecast Consumption in IBP Order Based Planning

Hello all,

we are currently setting up order based planning in SAP IBP R&S, based on the best practice content provided. However we are struggling with the forecast consumption functionality.

- We have created a forecast unconstrained

- We have some sales orders represented in the kf sales order requested

- We have set-up a forecast consumption profile – PERPRODLOCCUST level and weekly consumption

- We have assigned the forecast consumption profile to the respective location products

- We are not using multiple demand key figures in our model

My expectation is that the kf forecast open contains the forecast after the consumption. Having a weekly consumption defined in our profile, I am expecting that the consumption is based on the total weekly unconstrained forecast and the total weekly sales order quantity.

We cannot see that result that in our planning view.

What we can see: if the order quantity and the forecast is in the same day the consumption logic works. In an aggregated weekly view, however, the results are not correct.

Do you have an idea what the problem could be?

Also we are wondering:

  • What is the trigger for the forecast consumption. Does it happen once you refresh the planning view. Are there any specific jobs that need to be scheduled?
  • The kf forecast open is a calculated key figure. The forecast consumption logic is reflected in the calculation. How does this work together with the forecast consumption profile?

Many thanks in advance for your reply.

Dear Martin,

OBP Forecast Consumption calculation is done "on the fly" in the backend as part of the planning run and when entering the Fiori App "View Projected Stock" for your location product. The Excel planning view today cannot mimic all the cases.

When you want to align the results with Excel key figures/Planning View then it is important that the periodicity of the profile gets reflected in the key figure storage. That means that you should put the forecast level using root "weekly".

Best regards,

Claus

Did it work, Martin? What happened at the end?

Hi Lingaiah,

thank you very much for your response. we have all the settings in place, as you described. However, It still does not work:

Forecast Profile: PERPRODCUST Level, Periodicity = weekly

Forecast Key Figures (Sales, Forecast, Open Forecast) on PERPRODCUST level

We have asigned the forecast profile to all relevant location products

I would expect that an consumption on weekly level woud work, it does not.

Can you tell me if we missed anything?

Thank you very much

Martin

Hi,

Forecast consumption profiles have an OBP planning level assigned, for example, location material, or location material customer. This is the level on which sales orders consume the forecast. Forecast consumption profiles also define the periodicity for consumption, for example, daily or weekly.

The forecast key figure is considered as the future demand, and forecast consumption against actual sales orders occurs as follows: Forecast - actual sales orders = open forecast.

Note that planning objects must exist in the planning area on the level on which forecast consumption occurs.

If consumption occurs on an aggregated level, you have to make planning objects available there, for example by uploading a dummy key figure to this level.

Best Regards,

Lingaiah
