Local Printers in SAP?

I am trying to support SAP in my building here at work and for some reason, I can't get anyone to be able to see their local printers.

I have tried going into System> User Profile> Own Data> Defaults tab

I then tried to put in %WIN as well as LOCL under Spool Control>OutputDevice and I get the error that %WIN does not exist and for LOCL nothing happens at all.

Does anyone have any idea why this wouldn't be working?

Chris,

If you're trying to setup Front-End printing as Pradeep suggests, you need to configure the Output Device in SPAD as follows:

  • Device Type: either SAPWIN (for PCL printing) or POST2 (for Postscript printing, which will be better quality, but requires everyone have a Postscript-compatible printer)
  • Host Spool Access Method: G (F is out-of-date, but theoretically should still work)
  • Host Printer: __DEFAULT

That last bit in bold is probably what you're missing.

The name of the Output Device can be whatever you want; you create it as the system administrator. Then you just need to have everyone pick it as their default printer.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Chris,

I hope you are trying to print using front-end printers, Have you tried with LP01 printer or just create dummy printer with Access method "G" as per this link https://help.sap.com/doc/saphelp_nw70/7.0.31/en-US/76/2b063cd616133de10000000a11402f/content.htm?no_... ?

Also please check if users has authorization to use the spool devices.

Thanks,

Pradeep
