Functionality of Report Painter in S4HC?

DirkO

Hello S4HC-experts,

I´m wondering does S4HC provide a tool which is (fully) equivalent to the old Report Painter or not?

I want to set up a report (App AnalyticQuery) for e.g. cost center providing:

  • columns: plan, actual, diff(plan vs. actual)
  • row 1: account "revenue" 8xxxxxxxxx
  • row 2: account "personal costs" 41xxxxxxxx
  • row 3: calculation: (row 1 - row 2)
  • row 4: account "service costs" 44xxxxxxxx
  • row 5: calculation: (row 3 - row 4)
  • ...

and so on.

Needless to say:

- I want to be able to use one "account" or an "account group" per row and

- data is coming from a cds view which providing information in a consistent manner like e.g. (I_ACTUALPLANJRNLENTRYITEMCUBE).

So can someone from SAP or anyone else please provide a statement whether this is possible in S4HC or not and if it is possible which tool(s) needs to be used to achieve this.

Thanks

Dio.

Hello Dio,

I just stumbled across your question.

In fact such reports are possible since quite a while in S/4HANA Cloud and OnPrem.

With the app Custom Analytical Queries you can create CDS Queries. In such a query you can create restricted and calculated key figures with which you can build up such a report line by line!

This query is then exposed as OData Service and InA service so that you can use it in Fiori Applications and also SAC or Analysis for Office, ...

Jörg

Hi Jörg

With the app 'Custom Analytical Query' we can create CDS Queries and with the restricted and calculated key figure I have set up a similar requirement which was described by Dio. I have set up the key figures Line by Line. On lowest level we have to create a restricted key figure by account.

In most cases the line structure of the Report Painter Reports based on huge Cost Element hierarchies. in a Report Painter Report more than one hierarchy is used. So you have to set up a huge hierarchies with a key figure hierarchie with the App 'Custom Analytical Query'.

If after a time I new account is pops up the key figure has to be maintained with the app 'Custom Analytical Query' in most of the cases in more than one Query.

With the Report Painter/Writer Environment only the cost element hierarchie has to be maintained by the accounting team.

Currently I have the situation, that we have done a Brownfield Conversion and the next step is to deactivate the classic Profit Center Accounting. Many Report Painter Reports with huge cost elements hierarchies as described above has to be converted to the universal Journal.

From my point of view we have the following options:

1. Create Queries with the app 'Custom Analytical Query' and huge key figure hierarchies.

2. Create/Develope a CDS Query with Eclipse. Here we consider 'global Accounting Hierachies'

3. Rebuild the Classical Profit Center Report Painter Reports based on Reporting Table ACDOCT with the Report Painter.

With option 2. I have currently no experience. But it sound comprehensive. I have to reconcile it with our CDS developement team

Due you know further options?

From my point of view option 3 is the best one, if I consider the topic 'maintenance of a 'new Acccount''.

Whats your point of view?

Thanks for the discussion and your initial tip with the app 'Custom Analytical Query'

Niels

Hello World,

in short. The answer to my question is: "It is not possible & no tool available" (05/2019).

S/4HANA Cloud reporting capabilities do not provide functionalities SAP used to provide since 25 years in ERP with Report Painter nor Report Writer. Even SAC is not able close the gap.

Hi Dio

The KBA https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/2579584 has useful information and links to blogs for reporting tools that can be used instead of the Report Painter.

Thanks

Hello Enda,

Ok, I see I did not miss the key points in the topic at all. All the examples just refers to the fact to display figures in a multi dimensional reports fine, of course we can display amounts per account/profit center per line.

But I could not find an answer to my question for this:

  • row 1: account "revenue" 8xxxxxxxxx
  • row 2: account "personal costs" 41xxxxxxxx
  • row 3: calculation: (row 1 - row 2)

If I just would need row 1 and row 2 I would set up a hierarchy according to my needs. But unfortunately I want to calculate in row 3.

So can you give me hope that this is possible to define calculations for rows, please please?

Thanks.

Regards & greets to Irland!

Dio.

Hi,

I would suggest you another answer to the same question; because this is Public Cloud and things are different, as you have heard 🙂

In S4HC you obtain this output through a Pivot Table, not programing at all.

First selecction screen: you define whoch data stream will be used

Second screen (picture) you define how it will be displayed. You Drag &drop rows and columns; then you save a 'screen varian' (Standard* in the below example)

When Business User call this app, then select 'this' visualization Variant, and your report comes out!

Check some apps, as
