Do you know which service pack of CR 2016 you've installed? Please go to Help >> About and look at the version number. It will be in the form 14.2.<service pack>.<build>. If the service pack number is 4 or less, you'll need to upgrade to a newer service pack.
I suspect you're on a very early version of CR 2016, which had problems like this. If this is the case, there's two different places you can go to get a newer service pack.
1. If you are using SAP BI Platform (BusinessObjects) or Crystal Reports Server, you'll need to go through the folks who are managing that system so they can download the correct service pack from SAP.
2. If you're using Crystal by itself, you'll go to https://origin.softwaredownloads.sap.com/public/site/index.html and fill in the form:
Software Product: SAP Crystal Reports
Product Version: SAP Crystal Reports 2016
Click on "Go". Click on "File Title" and tell it to sort Descending. The second file is the upgrade to SP07 and the first one is Patch 1 for SP07. Download both of them then install the upgrade and then the patch.
This should resolve the issue.
