I am aware that most commonly used system alias are S4FIN and BACKEND. However, I have seen some apps use "S4XX" as system alias. What does that mean?
In S4XX the 'XX' usually stands for the line of business. For e.g., S4FIN (Finance), S4PRC (Procurement), S4SD (Sales) and so on. That is the default System Alias maintained in all the standard SAP GUI and Web Dynpro tiles which has to be created as type H destinations on the front-end gateway system.
