Can we implement differed revenue recognition without a billing plan

Hi - appreciate is someone can hep me out with this question, can we enable differed revenue recognition without using a billing plan from sales order (base on an order related billing scenario). The reason behind this is to allow partial billing quantities during billing.

The scenario we have is as follows each finish product is accompanied with a service line item, lets say if we have 5 pcs of finish product this will be accompanied by 5 service line item, the service line item is created with a billing plan and its revenue recognition enable. complexity arises when there is a partial shipment of the finish product assuming only 3 pcs of the finish product is ship , SAP does not allow partial shipment on a billing plan (despite we have enable the notes) - this is the reason we want to explore to see if its possible to have RR working without a billing plan in order to have more flexibility in partial billings.

I am sure, you should be having different item category for finished product and service in which case, I don't think, it will be a challenge in meeting your requirement.
