Upgrade to ASE 16 from ASE 15.7 FREE or NOT

We have been buying ASE 15.7 maintenance support continuously. And we can see ASE 16 in the SAP download centre. Are we eligible to upgrade to ASE 16 free? Or do we need to buy license from scratch?

Hi Wong,

If ASE is running for SAP applications, DB license will come as part of SAP product/solution license hence you no need to pay additional license fees for DB.

Moreover, SAP upgrades (including DB) are free of cost. for example, If you are running the SAP system ECC 6.07 on ASE 15.7 DB and you would like to upgrade to ECC 6.08 on ASE 16.0 , it is absolutely free (No additional license required). Even If ECC 6.07 supports ASE 16.0 DB then you can just upgrade DB alone to ASE 16.0 from 15.7. Hope this clears your doubt.

For non-SAP applications, if you are current on your maintenance contract, yes, you can upgrade with no cost to 16. You may have to regenerate the licenses online in the Launchpad, but you should have no problems.
