SAP HANA CLIENT / LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Hi All,

I have installed HANA client in our solution manager (DB - Sybase) setup a DB cockpit connection to managed system (DB - HANA).The sapnote 1597627 says to set the variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH and PATH for HANA db client for user <sid>adm . "Enter the path for the DB client software /usr/sap/<SID>/hdbclient in the environment variable LIBPATH (AIX), SHLIB_PATH (HP-UX), or LD_LIBRARY_PATH (other UNIX systems) and PATH."

As of now , LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set as below :

/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/syb/linuxx86_64/sybodbc:/oracle/client/12x/instantclient:/sybase/<SID>/ASE-16_0/lib:/sybase/<SID>/OCS-16_0/lib:/sybase/MSD/OCS-16_0/lib3p64:/sybase/<SID>/OCS-16_0/lib3p:/oracle/client/12x/instantclient How do I make the HANA client env values (/usr/sap/hdbclient) permanent to establish a DB connection from Sybase to HANA DB.

Hello Satish,

Hope you have followed SAP Note 1943235 to install HANA client. If you have performed client installation in central SAP directory i.e. inside kernel then you have to follow option 2.

You need to set some more parameters along with LD_LIBRARY_PATH and same has been mentioned in SAP Note.

After restart, you can check work directory there will be one file name sapcpe_hdbclient.log. There should not be any error in this file.

NOTE: There is an overhead in performing local HANA client installation, as you need to install client on each app server. Same goes while performing upgrade of HANA client as well. It is good if you install HANA client in central directory and maintain parameters in each application server as maintained in 1943235, so in future even if you upgrade HANA client you just need to update in kernel directory (not on all application server).
