Copying a New Client

Former Member

HI Experts:

I understand that this question may seem like extremely "I should know this" but i would really like some assistance with this.

I am trying to copy a new client, and am following the attached instructions.

Procedure

1. Maintain the new client with transaction SCC4.

2. Activate kernel user SAP*:

a) Set the profile parameter login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to 0.

b) Restart the application server.

3. Log on to the new client with kernel user SAP* and password PASS.

4. Copy client 000 with transaction SCCL and profile SAP_CUST.

5. Check the log files with transaction SCC3.

6. Deactivate kernel user SAP*:

a) Reset login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to 1.

.

Caution

You create SAP system user SAP* on the new client before resetting

login/no_automatic_user_sapstar.

b) Restart the application server.

Question:

This is a new system

How do i activate kernel user SAP*? I have already created a new client but I need to log into it to copy from 000/001.

Anyhelp would be really appreciated.

Imran

Hi Gregor:

That line doesn't exist on our profile. So, would I be correct in assuming that we have to physically add that line in our profile.

And does it matter exactly where we input that line or can it be anywhere in that profile.

Thanks

Imran

Hi Imran,

you have to add this line to the file. It does not matter where in the file it is located. But insert a newline after the last line.

Gregor

Hi All:

The line can be added through the SAP system.

Besure to save as many times as possible.

Log out of the system.

Stop all SAP instances.

Restart the entire system

Start all SAP instances.

Log into the new client with Password PASS.

Imran

Thanks for all your help with this Gregor.

Really Appreciated

HI Gregor:

The thing is that the system won't let me log into the new client with User: SAP* and P/W: PASS. The guide says that before I can do that, I need to the following:

2. Activate kernel user SAP*:

a) Set the profile parameter login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to 0.

b) Restart the application server.

3. Log on to the new client with kernel user SAP* and password PASS.

However, I am not sure as to how I do step 2a.

Thanks

Hi Imran,

you have to edit the profile file. It is located at:

/usr/sap/[Instance Name]/SYS/profile/[Instance Name]_DVEBMGS00_[Hostname]

and add this parameter.

Hi Gregor:

Thanks for your prompt reply. See the thing is that I haven't been able to log into the new client/100(let alone copy anything into it)

So, essentially I have to figure out a way to create a user from 000/001 that has access into the new client/100

All the users that I have been able to create only work with the client they were created in.

Thanks

Hi Imran,

why don't you try to logon with SAP* on the new client and create a user?

Hi Imran,

you can create a User with SAP_ALL after you have done the client copy and use this user.
