Hi all ,
The buzz word these days are portals , what exactly is this and how different they are with websites and how is it connected to SAP.
Regards,
John
Hi John
portal's are better way of publishing the content , using this one actually can customize their information (both static and dynamic)
It basicaly focuses on role-based information , it is like a website having a content , but the design look and feel and grouping is different for different people.

Hi john ,
Its not just that , it actually has high level abstract information .
Imagine a example where in a company has information regarding their sales last year.
now different people in the company look at the same data in a different view .
SAP came up with EP called as Enterprise Portal which helps to integrate people process information , at one shot.
Hi
Sap Potral ->
The SAP Enterprise Portal is unifying the applications, information and services existing in an enterprise into one system. It is a personalized, interactive gateway, providing employees, partners, suppliers and customers with a single point of access. The SAP Enterprise Portal can be accessed through multiple devices from anywhere at any time and delivers relevance to the user, eliminates traditional barriers to productivity and dramatically accelerates business throughput.
SAP also offers portal content targeted specifically to the function users have within an organization. SAP Business Packages streamline access to the business processes that users inside and outside the enterprise need most since they are tailored to the specific roles and responsibilities of users. The Business Packages have been designed based on considerable SAP experience and provide increased efficiency, timely decisions, and improved customer service.
WebSites ->The entire collection of web pages and other information (such as images, sound, and video files, etc.) that are made available through what appears to users as a single web server.
Difference Between Both of them ->
Yes, both Websites and Web Portals offer the same service. As previously explained a Web Portal is just a type of Website.
For another definition of Web Portals compared to Websites;-
A Website is all the pages, images and files contained under a domain name - such as www.happy-online.co.uk
A Web Portal is a type of Website. A Web Portal acts as a gateway to the internet. (A typical dictionary definition of the word portal would be - a doorway or a grand entrance.)
Take the website www.yahoo.com, this is a website, all the pages under the domain www.yahoo.com combine to make the website. However, Yahoo is often referred to as a Web Portal, if you have a look at the Yahoo Website you can see why it has often been called a Portal. The Website acts as a doorway (Portal) to the Internet, from the website you can search the web, go shopping, take part in auctions, read your email etc.
I hope this will help you to solve your problem
Thanks
